How it works
How to make a barcode
- Pick the format: EAN-13 or UPC-A for retail products, Code 128 for shipping labels, inventory and anything with letters.
- Type the number or text. For EAN-13 and UPC-A, leave off the last digit and QRius adds the correct check digit.
- Download the SVG for print, keep the white margins, and scan a test print before a full run.
Which barcode format to use
EAN-13 is the retail barcode used almost everywhere outside North America, and UPC-A is its US and Canada twin; both carry a product number (GTIN) ending in a check digit. Code 128 packs letters, numbers and symbols into a compact pattern, which makes it the usual choice for shipping labels, warehouse locations and asset tags.

UPC-A 012345678905

Tips for codes that scan
- To sell through retail stores you need GS1-issued product numbers (GTINs). QRius draws the barcode; it doesn't issue numbers.
- Print black bars on white. Coloured, low-contrast or shiny backgrounds fail on many scanners.
- Keep the white margin on both sides, and don't shrink a retail barcode below about 80% of its standard size.
- Scan a test print with a real scanner or phone before printing thousands of labels.
Where people use them
- Retail product packaging
- Shipping and warehouse labels
- Inventory and asset tags
- Library and document tracking

Is this barcode generator free?
Yes. Make and download as many EAN-13, UPC-A and Code 128 barcodes as you like, with no signup. Everything runs in your browser.
Do I need GS1 numbers for my products?
If you sell through retail stores or marketplaces that scan barcodes, yes: they expect GS1-issued GTINs. For internal use, like inventory or asset tags, you can use your own numbers with Code 128.
What's the difference between EAN-13 and UPC-A?
UPC-A has 12 digits and is used mainly in the US and Canada. EAN-13 has 13 digits and is used almost everywhere else. Retail scanners read both.
Can I make barcodes in bulk?
