How to make an SMS QR code
- Enter the number that should receive the texts, with the country code.
- Write the message people will send, such as "JOIN" or "Table 4: bill please".
- Download the code and test that your messaging app opens with both filled in.
What an SMS QR code contains
The code uses the SMSTO format that phone cameras and scanner apps recognise: the number, then the message. The sender still taps Send, and normal SMS rates apply.

Tips for codes that scan
- Keep the message short and clear so people don't edit it.
- Use a different keyword on each poster to see which placement brings replies.
- Make sure someone actually reads the number you print.
Where people use them
- Table service in restaurants
- Opt-ins for offers
- Feedback at events
- Service requests

Common questions
Still curious? Drop us a line and a human will get back to you.
Does it send the SMS automatically?
No. It opens the messaging app with the text ready, and the person taps Send.
Does it work on iPhone?
Yes. The iPhone camera and Android phones recognise SMS codes and open the messaging app with your number and text.
Should I use SMS or WhatsApp?
SMS works without mobile data and on every phone. WhatsApp is better for conversations and photos. You can make both codes here.
